The tip is in contact with the skin for only about a third of a second. That's what makes the process virtually painless.

It's now possible to numb the scalp without a needle at all. A pressure device drives the anesthetic straight through the skin — removing the moment most patients dread.

Because no needle pierces the skin, this is the best option for patients with a phobia of needles and injections. The anesthetic is pushed in by air pressure, so there's no puncture — only a brief sensation as the fluid settles beneath the surface.

How pressure replaces the needle

A spring-loaded piston turns a fraction of a second of pressure into a precise, painless dose of anesthetic.

01 / FILL

Load the nozzle

The nozzle at the base of the piston is filled with anesthetic — about 0.5 ml, the usual amount for a transplant.

02 / TRIGGER

Release the spring

Pressing the trigger at the top releases a spring that drives the piston sharply downward.

03 / PRESSURE

Build pressure

High pressure builds in an instant through the 0.15 mm opening at the tip of the nozzle.

04 / DELIVER

Straight through the skin

The anesthetic passes directly into the tissue below. The tip touches the skin for only about ⅓ of a second.
